In Ethiopia, 41 million people are under the age of 18 and out of these an estimated 11 million of them have lost or are at risk of losing parental care. For almost half a century, SOS Children’s Villages in Ethiopia, a proud member of SOS Children’s Villages International, has stood as a beacon of hope for children in these situations. We have dedicated ourselves to creating loving homes, providing quality education, and ensuring accessible healthcare, all while keeping children safe and nurturing their potential. Beyond this, we also deliver critical humanitarian aid during emergencies, prioritizing the needs of women and children. Our far-reaching impact spans eight regions, touching lives and fostering resilience across the nation.
Throughout the year, we faced numerous trials, such as the war in the Northern part of Ethiopia, the drought in Gode and East Harerge, and a significant internal displacement that demanded urgent intervention. Nevertheless, through the unwavering commitment of our dedicated staff members and the invaluable support of our esteemed partners, we were able to respond effectively to these crises. Our multi-sectoral integrated approach to humanitarian action yielded remarkable results, enabling us to make positive results in the lives of more than 1 million affected people.
In the year 2019 SOS Children’s villages Ethiopia continued to grow at an increasing pace. In collaboration and partnership with Community Based Organizations, government and other stakeholders, thousands of children, youth, their caregivers and other segments of the community have benefited from the program interventions in care, livelihood development, Health, Education , social value creation, microfinance development, community awareness and involvement towards supporting vulnerable children and families.
