SOS Children’s Villages in Ethiopia Appoints Artist Alemayehu Tadesse as First-Ever Brand Ambassador

In a landmark step toward strengthening local engagement and amplifying its mission, SOS Children’s Villages in Ethiopia has appointed artist Alemayehu Tadesse as its first-ever brand ambassador. The appointment was officially announced today, November 25, 2025, marking a significant milestone for the organization as it seeks to broaden its reach, deepen public trust, and mobilize sustainable support for underserved children, young people, and families across the country.

The introduction of a brand ambassador aligns with SOS Children’s Villages in Ethiopia’s long-term strategy to expand its programmes while intensifying local resource mobilization. With millions of children, young people, and families that continue to be affected by poverty, conflict, and displacement, the organization emphasized the need for a respected, relatable figure who can advocate for children’s rights and strengthen community participation.

Following a structured nomination and review process, supported by broad staff input, artist Alemayehu emerged as the top choice. His integrity, national reputation, and personal connection to the organization made him the ideal candidate. His appointment, made entirely out of goodwill, reflects his deep alignment with the organization’s values and mission.

In his speech, artist Alemayehu reflected on a connection to SOS Children’s Villages in Ethiopia that began long before this ambassadorship.

“Growing up in Harrar, where the organization has been present for decades, I had the opportunity to visit the SOS Children’s Village Harrar programme location during its 40th anniversary celebration and witnessed firsthand the compassion and transformative impact the organization brings to children, young people, and families,” he shared. “The love, dignity, and sense of belonging I saw were unforgettable. Becoming a brand ambassador is more than a title, it is a responsibility. I am honored to use my voice to bring hope and opportunity to children and young people across Ethiopia.”

He also recalled discovering that the kindergarten he once attended is now part of the SOS Children’s Village Harrar programme, serving as a daycare center for mothers who lack childcare and are striving to rebuild their lives.

“In many ways, SOS Children’s Villages in Ethiopia has been part of my story from the very beginning,” he said.

The two-year ambassadorship begins immediately, with the possibility of extension. As brand ambassador, artist Alemayehu will help advance the organization’s shift toward increased local fundraising and corporate partnerships, key steps in building sustainable, community-led support systems.

Speaking at the event, Mr. Sahlemariam Abebe, Multi-Country Director for SOS Children’s Villages in Ethiopia and South Sudan, emphasized the significance of the moment:

“We are here to celebrate a shared vision, a vision that every child in Ethiopia deserves love, protection, and opportunity. Becoming a brand ambassador is not merely a title; it is a calling. It is about service, compassion, and resilience. Today, we entrust this responsibility to artist Alemayehu Tadesse, who will serve as the storyteller of our impact and the bridge between our mission and the world.”

He added that the new partnership aims to bring the voices of children and young people to the forefront, strengthen partnerships with donors and businesses, and inspire nationwide action.

With the support of its first brand ambassador, SOS Children’s Villages in Ethiopia is strengthening its ability to reach more communities, mobilize broader local support, and continue its decades-long mission, ensuring that no child grows up alone, young people are empowered, and families are supported to thrive.
