Championing Children's Rights and Protection

SOS Children’s Villages works to influence public policies that will provide a protective environment for all children.  Thus, we are advocating for:

  • the adoption of comprehensive children's law;
  • the establishing and resourcing of social protection funds; and
  • the operationalisation of the Child Protection Information Management System (CPIMS+).
  • SOS Children's Villages in Ethiopia is advocating for comprehensive legislation that addresses all aspects of child protection and rights. Thus far, it has collaborated with the Ministry of Women and Social Affairs to organise a national consultative meeting to stregthen the political will and create consensus on the topic. Following up the meeting, the MOWSA has taken the lead to establish a Technical Working Group (TWG) to support the development and enactment of the comprehensive children's law (child act). Thus far, 16 like-minded organisations are members of the TWG.
  • SOS Children’s Villages is advocating for the Government of Ethiopia to mobilise and allocate an adequate budget for the social protection funds providing the much needed support for families and children without parental care.
  • SOS Children’s Villages is providing capacity building support in order to pilot and operationalise the CPIMS+ launched on May 2024. We are also advocating for the inclusion for disaggregated data on youth leaving care and young care leavers that will provide much needed evidence for policy and programming targeting these vulnerable groups.
