Minimum Standards for Preparation of Leaving Care and Aftercare Support

This standard outlines the essential guidelines set by the Ministry of Women and Social Affairs in Ethiopia to support adolescents and youth transitioning out of alternative childcare systems. Designed to ensure a smooth transition toward independent living, the document details standardized frameworks for pre-exit preparation, comprehensive individual transition planning, and post-care support across key sectors including health, housing, education, and economic empowerment. It serves as an operational benchmark for government institutions, alternative care providers, and key stakeholders committed to protecting the rights, well-being, and long-term self-reliance of care leavers.

Barriers, challenges and perspectives affecting employment of youth and women in Ethiopia Specifically in Addis Ababa and Adama

Ethiopia is one of the youngest nations in the world, with over 70% of its population under the age of 30 (UNFPA, 2023) and approximately 2 to 3 million young people entering the labour market every year (World Bank, 2023; ILO, 2022). Yet, job creation has struggled to keep pace, leaving many young people, particularly women, facing persistent unemployment and underemployment.
